SWFL Journal (November/December 2020)
Sunday
I feel like I have so much extra time today—Bye, bye daylight saving time. I think I’ll use it constructively … building sandcastles at the beach.
Tuesday
It’s finally Election Day! There’s a lot of tension in the air, even along the laid-back Gulf Coast. We all need to vote, chill and go to the tiki bar.
Friday
A nice long walk around the neighborhood this morning. All those political yard signs are looking a little worse for the wear.
Wednesday
Paddleboarding is harder than it looks. Just sayin’ …
Thursday
Still sore from my little paddleboarding excursion. But what a nice way to enjoy the bay. Yes, I’ll try it again and hope for more time on the board, less in the water.
Saturday
I’ve been putting it off, but the menu planning has to begin. The big turkey day is right around the corner. Seems like a good year to go traditional—stuffing, potatoes, green beans, cranberries and, definitely, pumpkin pie.
Sunday
Well, after further thought, Key lime pie, too.
Tuesday
Hmm, I just noticed a shelf that I missed during my crazy coronavirus cleaning frenzy. I better get busy.
Wednesday
What I found on my hidden shelf: old tax returns, unlabeled CDs, a DVD of Forrest Gump and my first-ever journal entry in the first-ever issue of this magazine 25 YEARS AGO! Wow, hard to believe, but it’s been a quarter century of publishing. Well done, TOTI Media.
Friday
The turkey is gone. Glittery tinsel and sparkling lights came to life overnight. Now on to what is shaping up to be a most unusual holiday season.
Monday
Gift list? Check. Wallet? Check. Sanitizer? Check. Face mask? Check. Ready to shop locally? You bet.
Saturday
A lot of browsing this week—from Estero to Cape Coral to Sanibel. It’s a relief to see many local retailers thriving in the midst of chaos.
Thursday
The tiniest little nip in the air made me think hot cuppa, comfy couch and A Christmas Story.
Monday
Even Santa’s elves are doing their part. I just saw a pack of them, all adorned with festive face masks.
Friday
Good riddance to 2020. Could it have been any worse? Let’s all move into the new year with higher hopes.
